concert for life

I am super excited about the Pregnancy Help Center's upcoming fundraiser, the Concert for Life. (My sister and I volunteer at the Center, as do many others in our church.) I am posting the information below. If you know anyone who lives in this area who may be interested, let them know! Help get the word out! :) Also, please keep this concert in your prayers. Pray not only that we will raise money, but also, and more importantly, that God will be glorified and honored in this event and in the hearts of those present.

Concert for Life
All proceeds benefit the Pregnancy Help Center of Kent County, Delaware

The Pregnancy Help Center of Kent County will present the Concert for Life Friday, April 13, 2007 at 7 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church in Dover, Del. The concert will feature Jeremy Casella with local artist Joe Bassett. Since 1999, Jeremy Casella has been crafting his unique singer/songwriter style, a blend of acoustic folk and rock with occaisonal harmonica thrown in for fun. Joe Bassett is an independent singer/songwriter whose first solo record, Promised Land, was released the summer of 2004. Tickets are $12.50 and are available through the Pregnancy Help Center. Call (302) 698-9311 to reserve tickets.

Both Jeremy and Joe have great talent and are awesome in concert. It's sure to be one great show.... Hope to see you there!

the treasure of Jesus

This quote comes from a wonderful, thought-provoking book I am reading. Some of you may have heard of it. It's called Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper (definitely a must-read!). This section is one of the many that really hit me. It's very sobering, but nevertheless it is true. I hope this gets you thinking as it did me. This quote comes from the chapter titled "Living to Prove He is More Precious Than Life".

Why Don't People Ask Us About Out Hope?

"There is no doubt that if we lived more like this, the world would be more likely to consider whether Jesus is an all-satisfying Treasure. He would look like one. When was the last time someone asked you about 'the reason for the hope that is in you'? That's what Peter said we should always be ready to give an answer for: 'Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you' (1 Peter 3:15).

Why don't people ask us about our hope? The answer is probably that we look as if we hope in the same things they do. Our lives don't look like they are on the Calvary road, stripped down for sacrificial love, serving others with the sweet assurance that we don't need to be rewarded in this life. Our reward is great in heaven (Matthew 5:12)! 'You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just' (Luke 14:14). If we believed this more deeply, others might see the worth of God and find in him their gladness."

As I read this, I was reminded of the Steven Curtis Chapman song "Treasure of Jesus". The album it came off of ("All Things New") is based on Don't Waste Your Life. So as I read more of this book, I keep finding little parts that remind me so much of a certain song from that album. It's pretty neat. :) Anyway, here are the words to the song. May this be the desire of all our hearts - to show the world the Treasure of Jesus!

"Treasure of Jesus" By Steven Curtis Chapman

What can I do
How can I live
To show my world
The treasure of Jesus

What will it take
What could I give
So they can know
The treasure He is

And if I can sing
Let my songs be full of His glory
If I can speak
Let my words be full of His grace

And if I should live or die
Let me be found pursuing this prize
The One that alone satisfies
The treasure of Jesus

Amen!

God Be Merciful to Me

This is one of my favorite hymns, and possibly one of the greatest ever written.

God, be merciful to me,
On Thy grace I rest my plea.
Plenteous in compassion Thou,
Blot out my transgressions now.
Wash me, make me pure within,
Cleane, O cleanse me from my sin.

My transgressions I confess,
Grief and guilt my soul oppress;
I have sinned against Thy grace
And provoked Thee to Thy face;
I confess Thy judgment just,
Speechless, I Thy mercy trust.

I am evil, born in sin;
Thou desirest truth within.
Thou alone my Savior art,
Teach Thy wisdom to my heart;
Make me pure, Thy grace bestow,
Wash me whiter than the snow.

Broken, humbled to the dust
By Thy wrath and judgment just.
Let my contrite heart rejoice
And in gladness hear Thy voice;
From my sins O hide Thy face,
Blot them out in boundless grace.

Gracious God, my heart renew,
Make my spirit right and true;
Cast me not away from Thee,
Let Thy spirit dwell with me;
Thy salvation's joy impart,
Steadfast make my willing heart.

prayer request

I have a prayer request for a man from my church. He has been having lots of pain in his legs, so he went to the doctor, and they found numerous blood clots in his legs, so many that they can't even count them. One of the clotted veins leads to his heart. He has to be on bed rest for three weeks. Also, he just started a new job and he won't be paid for this time off. So please pray for his healing and also for comfort and provision for his family during this hard time. His name is Mr. Dunlap. Thank you everyone!

God Bless,
Katherine E.
